Director's comments about
the film "Born in What Century"
“Born in What Century”
is about love and human communication and social and
familial relationships in the 21th century, the century
which has been called The Cnetury of Violance.
Furthermore, this film can be considered as a
psychological film. In this film we see a woman who
lives in a third world country, Iran. She lives in
wealth and total comfort but she suffers from an inner
pain, a pain which actuates her to kill her husband and
hiding his corpse in a wardrobe of bedroom. In fact by
killing her husband, she kills her love, her hope and
her life. So what is the reason of her crime? I think
the reason lies in the situation which the society has
imposed on women and the problems of identity which most
women face in third world countries. What will become of
mutual understanding in such society and such situation?
The society in which “killing” and “being killed’ is the
only way which leads to deliverance!
“Born in What Century”
takes a short but meticulous and avant-garde look at all
the deficiencies and promlems of this century. During
the film, the main character, Tondar(thunder), talks to
herself in her home in a one day and says some simple
but meaningful sentences which reveal the purpose of the
film. At the end of the film you can’t be sure whether
the killing of the husband has really occurred or it’s
only a delusion which exsists in Tondar’s mind. Maybe
like many wives who plan for killing their husband from
the morning to night. From the moment their husbands
leave the house to work and earn a good income, the
wives kill them and bury them in their minds for one
thousand times and all of this happen only in their
fancy, in their minds. But at night, when their husband
return home, the wives serve them, feed them and sleep
with them till morning and this is the way which wives
have chosen to cope with their husband.

Director's comments about
the film " World War IV"
It seems that all the
world is waiting for the third world war; the war which
will destroy many parts of the world and kill so many
people all over the world. Most people think that new
weapons such as atomic bombs will cause such a
catastrophe but I think that new destroyer is a more
dangerous and more fatal enemy: AIDS or HIV virus. The
film “4th World War” is based on a true
story. This film tries to reveal this fact that many
peaple who are affected with HIV, use it as a weapon to
take their revenge on the other people or sometimes use
it as an implement by which they awake others and make
them aware of their faults. In the story of this film,
we don’t have good characters and bad characters. The
story just tells that “situation” can change the
people’s destiny. Let me put it in this way: Good people
turn bad in bad situation and bad people turn good in
good situation. Thus at the end of the film, we don’t
know what will become of the woman; will she change or .
. . and the man who has been pitied by the woman, faces
an unusual and complicated situation. Anyway, by means
of this film, I only tried to uncover the existing facts
in Iran in the current time about AIDS and the way
people confront and counteract it. Probably the
essential problem in Iran is that women are playing the
main roll in transmitting the HIV virus. Ofcourse men
can transmit the virus as well and what has added to the
problem is that today, even married men are willing to
have affairs with other women.
So in this country,
there are many cases like the one we see in “4th
World War”.
